Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey today announced the price for the new Oculus CV1 virtual reality headset will be US$599.
The announcement made today on the Oculus website has come as a shock to many who had predicted a much lower price.
Headsets pre-ordered from today will start to be delivered late March, and will come with Luckeys Tale, Eve:Valkerie and a xbox 360 controller.
As a bonus for customers who pre-order the CV1, they will also be at the front of the line for the Oculus Touch, which is slated for release in the second half of the year.
The new CV1 uses state of the art displays and optics designed specifically for virtual reality. Its high refresh rate and low-persistence display work together with its custom optics system to provide incredible visual fidelity and an immersive, wide field of view
