MarineVerse Releases New VR Sailing App

Australian virtual reality start-up MarineVerse have released “Tacking and Jibing“, the latest in thier series of VR sailing apps for Google Cardboard.
.
So far the team have released an app that teaches you what things are called on a boat: “Sailing Terms“, and an app that shows you a little bit of sailing theory: “Point of Sail“.

After shipping previously mentioned apps, MarineVerse founders Greg & Olga demonstrated virtual reality to their sailing instructors in a club in Melbourne, Australia. Based on feedback and ideas from that conversation, a new app was created: “Tacking and Jibing“.

As Greg says: “We have created ‘Tacking and Jibing’, because after recently joining a sailing course, we have realised that those sailing manoeuvres are quite confusing for beginners, and yet they are the basic building blocks a competent sailor has to master. Talking to the sailing instructors, they also recommended that this is the next experience we build”.
.
In ‘Tacking and jibing” you will start at a lighthouse. From there, you will have a perfect view for a sailboat that is going around the course, tacking and jibing. From the lighthouse, you can teleport to two alternative locations: the moving sailboat or to the one that is anchored nearby.

What makes this demo special, is that you can move (or actually fly) with the boat. This mode might be uncomfortable for some, so please be mindful and have your ginger tablets ready.
