Tech giants Huawei Technology today announced their entrance into the VR market with the upcoming release of a new virtual reality headset.
It was unveiled at a press conference in Shanghai that the new headset will work with the two P9 phones and the Mate 8, the latest smartphones released by the Huawei. The P9 is the first smartphone co-engineered with German optics company Leica, and includes a dual-lens camera
Working in the same way as the Samsung Gear VR, users will need to secure their smartphones on the front part of the device. It comes with a touch panel, one back button, and volume keys to adjust settings.
It was announced the launch of the new VR headset will come with more than 4,000 free movies, 40 free games, 500 panoramic images and tours. The Huawei VR should launch in 2016, likely during the summer, and it is predicted to be priced lower than the Gear VR.
The P9 has a price of US$676.57 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB version and US$734 for the 4GB RAM + 64 version. The P9 plus with a 3,400mAh battery and Press Touch can be acquired for US$847 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB version.
